Statement on Tree of Life Synagogue tragedy

In response to the horrific anti-Semitic violence in Pittsburgh last Saturday, Oct. 27, Kalamazoo Nonviolent Opponents of War (KNOW) and the Kalamazoo Interfaith Coalition for Peace and Justice reaffirm their support for the Jewish community and strongly condemn anti-Semitism and all other forms of racism and bigotry.  We grieve with the families of the victims and with the Jewish community in Pittsburgh and across the country.

Last week’s event was truly heartbreaking.  The massacre of 11 Jews in the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh during Shabbat services struck at the heart of who we are as a nation.  This attack comes as too many of those with power and influence have fomented hate, fear, and racism.

We must redouble our efforts against anti-Semitism, racism, anti-refugee vitriol, and work to end all acts of hate and violence.  Above all, we must support each other in these trying times, for it is in standing together that we will create a better world.

A petition from Pittsburgh Jewish leaders to the White House.
