Vigil for Gaza

Vigil for Gaza

in front of Rep. Fred Upton’s office:

350 E. Michigan downtown Kalamazoo (near Sarkozy’s Bakery)

Friday, April 27, 2018

4:30 pm to 5:30 pm

Tell Rep. Fred Upton:

He must speak out against the deadly use of force against unarmed demonstrators in Gaza

Stop all US military aid to Israel, which amounts to billions of dollars per year

Spend those billions for domestic human needs, such as clean water for all

On March 30th Palestinians began the Great Return March, a six week campaign during which protestors have marched toward the wall that separates Gaza from Israel. They are demanding that Palestinian refugees be allowed to return to the homes from which they were expelled during the creation of the Israeli state in 1947-48 and in subsequent years.

Since the demonstrations began Israel has killed over 35 Palestinians. An additional 2,548 Palestinians have been injured, 1,495 of whom were shot with live fire. Palestinian journalists, medical staff, and paramedics wearing distinct uniforms have been targeted. No Israeli soldiers or civilians have been killed or injured during the protests.

Blockaded since 2007 by Israel and Egypt, which severely restrict access for goods and people, Gaza has suffered from debilitating power outages, a sewage crisis and shortages of food and medical equipment. Gaza has been called the largest open-air prison in the world.
