“The morality of avoiding another needless and horrible war
is more important than politics.” (AlterNet, August 10, 2015)
This statement comes from Danny Goldberg, whose father fought in five bloody battles against
the Nazis in Normandy and helped liberate the Buchenbald concentration camp in Germany.
He believes that his father, now dead, would have enthusiastically supported the Iran deal
that President Obama and five other world leaders have negotiated with Iran.
A prominent Jew, Goldberg disagrees with Senator Shumer’s opposition to the Iran deal
and points out that many Jewish politicians support the deal including, Barbara Boxer,
Bernie Sanders, and Dick Durbin. More important, the majority of Jews,
according to a recent poll by the Jewish Journal, favor approval of the deal (53%) over disapproval (35%).
In addition, the majority of American voters have consistently voted in polls
in the last five years that they favor avoiding military action against Iran.
They clearly support a deal with Iran–to avoid another needless and horrible war.
Yet, our own senators and representative in Washington D.C. have not publicly supported this important, historic agreement.
I urge American voters who believe that the Iran deal would
make our country and the world safer to call Senator Stabenow,
Senator Peters and Representative Upton and ask them to support the Iran deal.
