We stand with Lebanon.

September 27, 2024
Kalamazoo Nonviolent Opponents of War vehemently condemns and denounces the recent escalation of violent attacks on Lebanon by the Israeli Occupation Forces.

In the past week, Israel has committed a series of terrorist attacks on Lebanon with widespread explosions of pagers, radios, cell phones, solar electric generators, and other electronic devices, indiscriminate bombings in densely populated civilian areas near Beirut and other metropolitan areas, and more than 1,000 airstrikes.

As of Tuesday, Israel  has murdered more than 600 innocent civilians, injured more than 3,000, forced 27,000 civilians into shelters, and internally displaced nearly 100,000 people, some already refugees from Syria and Palestine. Yesterday was the deadliest day in Lebanon in decades, at the hands of Israel and its primary ally, the United States. It is evident that IOF tactics show a blatant disregard for civilian life and Lebanese sovereignty. The recent attacks attempt to drag Lebanon into warfare, risking a greater regional war.

We call on our elected officials to demand a complete and immediate arms embargo of Israel and to impose all conditions required by U.S. and international humanitarian law on all U.S. aid to Israel. Israel has dropped U.S. manufactured bombs on Lebanese and Palestinian civilians for almost a year. Only a U.S. arms embargo can put an end to the violence and bloodshed.

We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to continue organizing for peace and liberation for the people in Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and those around the world suffering under the oppression and exploitation of colonial imperialism. We remain steadfast in our push for de-escalation and diplomatic measures from all of our elected officials at the local and national levels.
