The November 23, 2013 presentation by Josh Ruebner on the topic of Israeli/Palestinian peace and justice was very well-received by the audience at WMU.  If you were not able to make it, an interview with Josh by Don Cooney for the “Critical Issues/Alternative Views” program is now airing on cable TV.  The hour-long program is a great primer on the current situation and how it affects us.

Sundays, 8:00 pm – Charter cable channel 95

Tuesdays, 9:00 pm – Charter cable channel 97

In the next few weeks, the show will be uploaded to youtube as well.  Stay tuned.

“Unmanned: America’s Drone Wars”

The Battle Creek Air National Guard base is preparing for a future with drones.

Robert Greenwald’s newest full-length feature on the subject of drones is now available to stream for free. The documentary will only be available to stream online for a limited time.

From Code Pink:

“…Our nation is leading the way toward a new form of warfare – where pilots sitting on the ground thousands of miles away command drone strikes and where targets are (in military jargon) “neutralized,” and where unintended victims are dismissed as “collateral damage.” Close observers, both inside and outside the U.S. military, call this “video-game warfare.” These killer drone operations, directed largely by the CIA, lack necessary transparency and accountability…“

Storage of nuclear waste at Palisades nuclear plant is problematic and potentially catastrophic.  Here’s an excerpt from a recent press release from Beyond Nuclear:

“Whether due to a tornado, an ice storm, or a tree branch touching a power line, the loss of the electrical grid to run the cooling water circulation pumps at the densely packed high-level radioactive waste storage pool at Palisades could cause boiling to begin within hours, and the high-level radioactive waste could catch on fire within a day or two,” said Kathy Barnes of Don’t Waste Michigan’s Sherwood chapter. “This is exactly what happened at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant’s Unit 4 in Japan, releasing catastrophic amounts of hazardous radioactivity directly into the environment,” she added.
